If I qualify for a green card as a nurse, how long does the process take & when can I start working?

A qualified nurse may apply for a green card without first obtaining labor certification so long as the visa bulletin reflects that a visa is available under the EB-3 preference.  Along with the green card petition, he/she may request a work authorization EAD that permits the alien to begin employment once approved. The application for work authorization typically takes up to 90 days, sometimes longer, to complete.  The green card process itself can take up to several months to over one year depending on the workload of the USCIS. The employment authorization may be renewed annually while the green card petition is in process.
