Marriage Visas/Green Cards - Illegal Aliens May Self-Sponsor Under VAWA

The USCIS issued a memorandum on April 11, 2008 clarifying that aliens who entered illegally or without inspection (EWI) may still apply for a green card under VAWA if married to a US citizen. This announcement makes it possible for those married are subject to spousal abuse to sponsor themselves for a green card whether or not they entered illegally, without inspection or have overstayed their visa. F1-OPT STEM Extension Application Procedures

For F-1 Student Optional Practical Training (OPT) Visa holders that qualify for the STEM extension of their student OPT status, the USCIS has published the standards for qualification and application procedures for obtaining the STEM F-1 OPT Extension. The USCIS also provides the STEM Designated degree Program List, how to apply for the STEM OPT extension as well as answers to questions regarding the E-verify program for employers.
